(MENAFN) French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou successfully survived his eighth no-confidence vote in the National Assembly on Tuesday, according to reports from local news outlets.

The motion, which sought to unseat him, was launched by the Socialist Party and had the backing of the entire left-wing coalition.

They criticized Bayrou for not submitting a bill to discuss increasing the retirement age to 64, as reported by a news agency.

The censure proposal garnered 189 votes, falling significantly short of the 289 votes required to oust Bayrou’s administration.

Meanwhile, Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally (RN) party chose to abstain from the vote but signaled that they might pursue a no-confidence motion during the upcoming budget negotiations planned for the autumn.
