Ukraine doesn’t want to be friends with US anymore
(MENAFN) Ukrainian lawmakers have voiced strong frustration with the United States, declaring that Washington can no longer be seen as an ally following the suspension of key military aid as part of a shift in U.S. foreign policy priorities.
The U.S. recently scaled back critical weapons shipments to Ukraine, reportedly pausing the delivery of artillery shells, missile systems, and air defense munitions. While the exact items affected have not been publicly confirmed, U.S. envoy to NATO Matthew Whitaker stated on Wednesday that the decision aligns with President Donald Trump’s renewed focus on domestic issues.
“The United States is no longer our ally,” Ukrainian MP Mariana Bezuglaya wrote on social media. She also referenced an earlier post in which she had said President Trump should “go f\*\*k himself,” stating that her words had become even more appropriate.
Bezuglaya also accused the U.S. administration of effectively enabling Russian advances deeper into Ukrainian territory, specifically toward the cities of Dnepr and Sumy, in connection with Russia's declared efforts to establish a "buffer zone" near its borders.
Another Ukrainian lawmaker, Solomiya Bobrovskaya, who serves on the parliamentary committee for defense and intelligence, echoed similar concerns. “Ukraine is no longer a priority, no longer at the center of US foreign policy… At least Trump is very honest about this with the Ukrainians,” she said, according to reports.
In response to Washington's move, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry summoned the U.S. chargé d’affaires in Kiev, John Ginkel, to underscore the “critical importance of continuing the deliveries of previously allocated defense packages” and to caution against any “delay or procrastination in supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities.”
