(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, July 2 (Petra) – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, headed by Minister Saleh Kharabsheh, concluded a round of joint meetings on Wednesday with Syrian Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Mohammad Al-Bashir and his accompanying delegation. The meetings, which began earlier in the day in Amman, focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
During the talks, both sides agreed to form specialized technical teams to coordinate reciprocal visits aimed at assessing the situation on the ground in Syria across various energy fields, including electricity, oil, natural gas, and renewable energy, in preparation for meeting sectoral needs.
The ministry held a series of specialized sessions with the Syrian delegation, attended by Jordanian officials and private sector representatives, centering on strengthening collaboration in electricity distribution, renewable energy, and the oil and gas sectors.
One of the meetings, attended by representatives from electricity distribution companies and the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), featured a presentation on Jordan's regulatory framework and privatization model for electricity distribution. The parties also explored areas of potential technical support, particularly in light of investment opportunities in Syria's power distribution sector.
The Syrian delegation met with Jordanian private companies active in renewable energy projects to explore prospects for cooperation and investment. Discussions also addressed the legislative and regulatory environment for renewable energy investment in Syria, with Jordanian firms expressing readiness to engage in future projects.
Jordan's industrial representatives shared their experience in manufacturing inputs for renewable energy projects and voiced full preparedness to participate in the Syrian market.
In a dedicated session on oil and petroleum products, the Syrian officials met with representatives of the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company, petroleum marketing companies, and the Jordan Oil Terminals Company (JOTC). Talks covered Syria's significant challenges in securing petroleum products and its urgent need to rehabilitate oil refining infrastructure.
Jordanian companies presented avenues for cooperation to support Syria's downstream sector, including supplying household gas, rehabilitating fuel stations, and boosting storage capacities.
During a joint press briefing, Minister Kharabsheh emphasized the importance of advancing bilateral relations in energy and water, underscoring the shared interest in expanding cooperation for mutual benefit.
