Doha, Qatar: Al Shahania Sports Club officially announced Tuesday the signing of Spanish midfielder Alvaro Sanz on a one-year contract from Racing de Ferrol, a club competing in Spain's Segunda Division.

The club stated via its official social media accounts that the 24-year-old player will join the squad in preparation for the 2025-2026 football season, as part of efforts to strengthen the team's lineup in line with upcoming competitive demands.

Al Shahania explained that the signing of Sanz aligns with its ambitious plan to secure a strong position in the Qatar Stars League and other domestic competitions in the upcoming season.

Sanz previously played for FC Barcelona under coach Xavi Hernandez two seasons ago, before being loaned to CD Mirandes and later transferring to Racing de Ferrol, where he competed last season.

Al Shahania will kick off its new season campaign against Al Duhail on August 16 in the opening round of the league.

The club had earlier announced the appointment of Spanish coach Santi Denia as head coach, succeeding fellow Spaniard Jose Murcia.
