Military Helicopter Crashes At Airport In Somalia Capital


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, July 2 (KUNA) -- A military helicopter from the African Union (AU) peacekeeping mission in Somalia crashed at the airport in the capital Mogadishu, Somalian authorities said on Wednesday.
The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) Director General Ahmad Hassan said in a statement carried by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA) that the plane was coming from Bale-Dogle base and had eight crewmembers on board, with no casualties reported.
He said that firefighting and emergency teams responded immediately and are currently dealing with the effects of the accident, adding that damage assessment is underway.
He stressed that the situation is completely under control and that flights at Mogadishu airport are continuing normally.
The Somali official said that the area where the accident occurred has been sealed off, indicating that the authority will issue more details regarding the damage after investigations. (end)
