Jordan, Italy Explore Opportunities To Deepen Economic Ties

Amman, July 2 (Petra) -- Private sector leaders in Amman met with representatives of the Italian Trade Mission this week to discuss ways to expand economic cooperation and boost trade and investment between Jordan and Italy.
During a meeting at the headquarters of the Jordan Europe Business Association (JEBA), board members and affiliated business representatives explored future opportunities for collaboration across key sectors, with a focus on private-sector engagement. The talks aimed to identify promising areas for joint ventures and enhance commercial links between the two countries.
According to a statement from JEBA, Vice President Jamal Badran called on Italian investors to pay greater attention to Jordan's high-potential sectors, particularly those highlighted in the Kingdom's Economic Modernization Vision.
He stressed the need to strengthen bilateral trade, especially by increasing Jordanian exports, and pointed to the Kingdom's advances in sectors such as information technology, education, tourism, and specialized industries.
The head of the Italian Trade Mission in Amman, Elisa Salazar, presented an overview of the mission's role in promoting economic and commercial ties. The mission operates under the Italian Trade Agency and offers services aimed at supporting partnerships between Jordanian and Italian businesses.
Salazar, accompanied by trade officer Naheel Shaheen, emphasized the strength of Jordan-Italy relations across multiple domains, including agriculture and industry. She also noted that Italy is among the countries that actively support Jordan's economic development.
Participants in the meeting underscored the importance of fostering direct communication channels between private-sector institutions in both countries and enhancing collaboration through trade and investment partnerships. They also called for better connectivity with influential economic bodies and business networks in Italy.
According to official data, Jordanian exports to Italy totaled JD51 million in 2023, while imports from Italy reached JD531 million.
