New US Ceasefire Proposal Includes 60-Day Truce, Captives Released Immediately
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
RAMALLAH, July 2 (KUNA) -- Israeli occupation media reported on Wednesday that the new ceasefire proposal includes a 60-day truce in Gaza, during which eight Israeli captives held by Hamas would be released on the first day.
The bodies of 18 deceased captives would also be returned in three stages, with two additional captives to be released on the 50th day of the ceasefire, the proposal added.
It further includes the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces to the Morag axis, a "security zone" that separates the southern cities of Rafah and Khan Younis, and a significant increase in the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to travel to Washington and meet with Trump on Monday, where the ceasefire will be a key topic of discussion.
Occupation media said Israel agreed to a Qatari-mediated, revised ceasefire plan, similar to the original US proposal, showing withdrawal flexibility but without a full war-ending guarantee but includes some assurances.
Hamas demands an end to the war as a key condition, while Israel refuses to halt its aggression on the Gaza Strip.
US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that the Israeli occupation has agreed to the terms of a 60-day ceasefire. (end)
