“One Big Beautiful Bill” narrowly gets approved by US Senate

(MENAFN) The Republican-controlled Senate passed President Donald Trump’s major legislative package, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” on Tuesday, marking a significant step toward the president’s goal of signing the bill into law by the end of the week.

The measure passed by a razor-thin margin of 51 to 50, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote. Three Republican senators—Susan Collins, Thom Tillis, and Rand Paul—voted against the bill.

Seen as the GOP’s most significant legislative achievement ahead of next year’s midterm elections, the bill extends the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, reduces taxes on tips, and allocates new funds for the military and border security.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune called the day “historic,” expressing enthusiasm for legislation he believes will strengthen, secure, and boost prosperity in the U.S.

However, the bill still faces a critical vote in the House of Representatives, expected as soon as Wednesday.

President Trump praised the bill, stating, “There is something for everyone, and I think it's going to go very nicely in the House. Actually, I think it will be easier in the House than it was in the Senate.”
