S. Korea Reports Sixteen Injuries After Vehicle Rams into Restaurant


(MENAFN) A collision at a restaurant in eastern South Korea on Wednesday left 16 individuals injured after a vehicle sped into the building, a local news agency reported.

The incident occurred around 11:32 a.m. local time (0232 GMT) at an expressway rest area in Gangneung, located about 220 kilometers east of Seoul. A man in his 80s was behind the wheel of the sport utility vehicle (SUV) when it crashed into the structure.

The crash resulted in injuries to 16 people inside the restaurant, with six of them requiring hospital treatment for both minor and more serious wounds. Fortunately, none of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries.

According to authorities, the driver was not under the influence of alcohol and explained that he had accidentally pressed the accelerator.

The police are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
