Minister of Environment and Climate Change, emphasized that the hawksbill turtle nesting season, which begins annually in April, reflects the State's commitment to preserving marine wildlife. He highlighted the Ministry's continued cooperation with its partners in implementing scientific and field programs that contribute to the sustainability of endangered species, which fall under Qatar's national and international commitments towards biodiversity conservation.

The Minister explained that the declaration of Fuwairit Beach as a nature reserve aims to create a safe environment for turtle nesting.

The Minister noted that between 2019 and 2025, the Ministry's teams released more than 50,000 turtles into the sea after relocating approximately 125 nests to Fuwairit Beach to avoid the effects of tides and human activities. Advanced programs were also launched, including turtle tagging, DNA analysis, and the use of satellite tracking devices to monitor their movement and migration.

He pointed out that study results showed the number of nesting females on Qatari beaches ranges from 164 to 345 turtles, indicating that the sites of Ras Laffan, Ras Rukn, Al Ghariyah, and Fuwairit account for 90% of the total nesting sites in the country.
