Srinagar Hits 20-Year June High, Rain Likely Today


(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- A day ahead of a predicted three-day wet spell, Srinagar recorded its hottest June day in nearly two decades as temperatures soared to 35.5°C - the highest for the month since 2005.
According to data accessed this is the highest temperature of the season so far in Srinagar, with a similar reading also recorded on June 20, matching a two-decade-old record.

Several other parts of the Valley also witnessed soaring temperatures. Qazigund recorded 33.6°C, Pahalgam 30.6°C, and Kupwara touched 34.7°C. Kokernag reported 33.2°C, while Gulmarg - the famous ski destination - was relatively cooler at 26.0°C.

In contrast, Jammu division remained relatively normal, with the winter capital Jammu registering a maximum of 34.1°C. Other areas recorded the following: Banihal 30.6°C, Batote 28.2°C, Katra 30.7°C, and Bhaderwah 33.2°C.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast a three-day wet spell from June 25 to 27. According to MeT Director Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, intermittent light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected across many places, with heavy showers likely at isolated spots in the Jammu region.

The MeT has also issued an advisory warning of potential flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones, particularly in vulnerable areas of the Jammu division. Waterlogging in low-lying plains and a rise in river and stream water levels are also anticipated.

The advisory urges farmers to suspend irrigation, spraying, and fertilizer use during this period.

Further rainfall is expected between June 28 and July 2 in scattered spells across the Union Territory, the MeT added.
