Iran Attack Was A Surprise, Qatar Calls On All Parties To Return To The Negotiating Table: Mofa Spokesperson

Doha: Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majid bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, said that the state of Qatar considered the attack a serious and unexpected escalation, particularly in light of the country's continuous efforts to promote dialogue and mediate peaceful solutions to regional crises.

This came during a live joint press conference aired on Qatar Television this evening, June 23, 2025, following Iranian missile attacks that targeted the US air base at Al Udeid.

Dr. Al-Ansari stressed that the State of Qatar is reaffirming its firm stance on resolving disputes through diplomacy and dialogue, and calls on all parties to return to the negotiating table and exercise restraint in order to preserve regional stability and security.

For his part, the Deputy Chief of Joint Operations of the Qatari Armed Forces, Shayeq Al-Hajri, confirmed that intelligence was received indicating that military bases in the region, including Al-Udeid Air Base, were potential targets.

The Qatari Armed Forces confirmed that at exactly 7:30 pm, the country's air surveillance and control systems detected the launch of seven missiles from northern and northwestern Iran, targeting Al-Udeid Air Base.

The missiles were intercepted and destroyed over the sea shortly after entering Qatari airspace.

Immediately after the first wave, a second missile attack comprising 12 missiles was launched toward the base. Eleven missiles were successfully intercepted, while one missile fell inside Al Udeid Air Base, causing no casualties or material damage.

Jabr Al-Nuaimi, the Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, said the sharpnel caused minor fires but were quickly contained, and no injuries were reported.

The joint statement added that Qatar will open air space soon after the temporary shutdown.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence, in a joint statement, affirmed that life is going back to nornal after Qatar's air defence systems successfully intercepted the missile attacks. The Ministry of Interior has also affirmed that the security situation in the country remains stable, and that there is no cause for concern.
