Russia Blasts U.S. Attacks on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities
(MENAFN) On Sunday, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations strongly criticized the recent U.S. missile and bombing attacks targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, accusing the Western members of the Security Council of double standards.
Vassily Nebenzia, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, described the U.S. actions as “irresponsible, dangerous, and provocative” during a special Security Council session. He emphasized that Iran is a sovereign nation and a member of the United Nations, and therefore the strikes were unjustified.
Nebenzia detailed that the U.S. launched unprovoked assaults on three Iranian nuclear sites which were safeguarded by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
He stated, “In doing so, Washington has yet again demonstrated its complete disregard for the position of the international community and reasserted that to advance the interests of its Israeli ally, it is prepared not only to turn a blind eye to the killings of tens of thousands of Palestinian women, children, and elderly people, but also to gamble with the safety and well-being of all humanity.”
The Russian envoy highlighted the potential radiological dangers these strikes pose, warning that the health and safety of countless civilians both in the region and beyond are at risk.
Nebenzia cautioned that by carrying out these attacks, the United States has unleashed a “Pandora’s box,” the full consequences of which remain unpredictable.
He further condemned Washington for acting independently and outside the bounds of international law.
“Washington sees itself as the highest judge in the land vested with the right to deliver justice at its sole discretion. Thus, the United States reaffirms that in order to preserve its global hegemony, it is ready to commit any crimes and violations of international law,” Nebenzia asserted.
Concluding, he declared that the U.S. has lost all credibility, adding, “none of the sensible members of the international community will believe our American colleagues anymore.”
