Amman, June 21 (Petra) – A worker trapped in the collapse of a borehole in Aqaba Governorate was found dead after a 13-day rescue operation, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) said Saturday.
The rescue has been ongoing since June 9 with the participation of teams of the Civil Defense, the International Search and Rescue and the Aqaba Support Group in cooperation with other local authorities, in a race against time to find the man who was trapped in the narrow borehole at a depth of 70 meters in the Fifth District of Aqaba Governorate, it said.
The search and survey operations continued for 13 days in a row using machinery and engineering equipment at the hole, which did not exceed 60 centimeters in diameter, in a desperate attempt to reach the man, who was found dead and his body decomposing, said the PSD.
It said it will investigate the incident and take measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
