European Ministers To Meet Iran's Araghchi For Nuclear Talks In Geneva

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) European foreign ministers from Germany, France, and the UK will meet Iran's Araghchi Friday in Geneva to discuss nuclear issues.

Reuters has reported that the foreign ministers of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom are scheduled to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in Geneva on Friday, June 20. The diplomatic gathering comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, particularly between Iran and Israel.

The report, published Thursday and sourced from a senior German diplomat, indicates that the European officials will first consult with Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, before engaging with the Iranian delegation.

Following their meeting with Kallas, the three European ministers are expected to hold direct discussions with Araghchi focusing on Iran's nuclear activities and its recent military posture. The talks are part of ongoing efforts to prevent further escalation and revive stalled diplomatic channels.

While Iran has not officially confirmed the Geneva meeting, Araghchi stated earlier today that Iran's actions against Israel were carried out strictly under the framework of legitimate self-defense. He reiterated that the Islamic Republic has never pursued war or nuclear weapons development.

This diplomatic engagement comes after the postponement of previously scheduled U.S.-Iran talks in Muscat, Oman, which were canceled due to recent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory. The cancellation underscored the fragility of the diplomatic process.

The Geneva meeting is viewed as a critical opportunity for European powers to mediate between Tehran and its adversaries. Analysts suggest that while expectations are modest, the talks could lay the groundwork for renewed dialogue on nuclear issues and regional stability.

With U.S.-Iran channels currently on hold, the EU's role as a mediator gains importance. The outcome of the Geneva meeting may shape the next phase of diplomacy in a region on the brink of deeper conflict.
