Erdogan Defends Iran’s Right to Resist
(MENAFN) Turkish Leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered a forceful message on Wednesday regarding the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, voicing firm backing for Iran's entitlement to respond in self-defense against Israeli actions.
During a speech at the Justice and Development (AK) Party Parliamentary Group Meeting held in Ankara, Erdogan stated that "It is entirely natural, legitimate, and lawful for Iran to defend itself against Israel's banditry and state terrorism."
His comments came in the wake of heightened Israeli airstrikes directed at Iran and its allied forces throughout the region.
Highlighting the seriousness of the situation, Erdogan directed harsh criticism toward the Israeli leadership.
He declared, "(Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu has long surpassed the tyrant Hitler in the crime of genocide. We hope their fates will not be the same."
The Turkish president's condemnation underscored his growing concern over what he characterized as unchecked aggression by Israel.
Erdogan further reiterated Türkiye's active opposition to the violence, saying, "We are doing everything we can to stop this inhumane aggression against Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and our neighbor Iran."
His remarks reflected Ankara's broader stance against what it views as destabilizing military campaigns throughout the region.
The Turkish leader also emphasized the devastating human cost of the conflict.
He warned, "The blood of massacred civilians, murdered babies, and children is splattered not only on the hands and faces of those who support Israel’s arrogance, but also on those who remain silent."
This pointed remark aimed not only at Israel but also at international actors perceived as complicit through silence or support.
Concluding his speech, Erdogan addressed Türkiye’s preparedness in the face of escalating tensions, stating, "We are closely monitoring Israel’s terrorist attacks on Iran. All our institutions are on alert over the potential effects of these attacks on Türkiye.”
This assertion reflected Ankara's cautious approach to protecting national interests amid increasing regional instability.
