Symbiosis Skill University Rolls Out Maiden B.Tech Batch In Defence Technology

(MENAFN- KNN India) Pune, Jun 16 (KNN) Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (SSPU), Pune, has officially announced a pioneering four-year B.Tech in Defence Technology, commencing with the 2025–26 academic session.

This marks a significant step for India's“Aatmanirbhar Bharat” and“Make in India” initiatives, positioning SSPU at the forefront of skill-based defence education.

The curriculum has been co-developed with top-tier experts from India's defence industry. Designed to be 70 per cent hands-on and 30 per cent classroom-based, the structured emphasis on practical training aims to align students' capabilities with real-world defence sector requirements.

A“Smart Centre of Excellence – Manufacturing Lab” has been set up at SSPU's Darawadi campus to support this experiential learning.

Furthermore, SSPU has sealed MoUs with Vasundhara Geo Technologies and DSA Electro & Design, enabling student internships across both private and government defence organizations.

Eligibility criteria for the program include completion of Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Swati Mujumdar, Pro-Chancellor of SSPU, highlighted that the course not only offers immediate industry relevance but also supports the broader goal of empowering students to contribute to national defence and potential export businesses.

She noted SSPU's industry partnerships spanning over 250 companies built over the past eight years.

Manish Bhardwaj, Technical Advisor to DRDO's Chairman, underscored the growing importance of defence technology, referencing recent operations and advanced homegrown systems such as missiles, drones, and radar. He emphasized the need for stronger academia–industry–government synergy to fill the skills gap.

With global defence sector growth and India's rising defence manufacturing capabilities-backed by ₹7 lakh crore annual spending and a strong indigenisation rate-the SSPU program is positioned as timely and strategic.
