Syrian Air Restarts Flights to Türkiye After 12-Years

(MENAFN) After a 12-year halt triggered by Syria’s civil war, Syrian Air has restarted its flight operations to Türkiye, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Istanbul Airport press office.

The airline's inaugural return flight from Damascus International Airport landed at Istanbul Airport on Tuesday evening and was greeted with a formal ceremony. Officials confirmed to a news outlet that flights between the two cities will now operate five times a week.

During the event, Firat Ocak, commercial director of Istanbul Airport, remarked: "Today's flight is not only the beginning of a new route but also a symbol of re-established ties, growing partnerships and shared opportunities."

Ocak emphasized that the arrival of Syrian Air marks the sixth new airline collaboration established with Istanbul Airport this year, further enhancing connectivity across the region.

Flights between Damascus and Istanbul had been suspended for over a decade due to the ongoing conflict in Syria.
