Gaza Child Who Lost Nine Siblings, Father To Israeli Bombing To Receive Care In Italy
Doha, Qatar: An 11-year-old Palestinian boy who lost all his nine siblings and father in an Israeli strike in the Gaza Strip will arrive in Italy today along with his mother to receive medical treatment there.
Adam Al-Najjar will arrive along with his mother Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar in Milan today to be treated in a hospital there, Lombardy regional officials have told the media.
Adam sustained critical injuries in the Israeli bombing of their home in Khan Younis on May 23, 2025, and risks losing the use of an arm because of his injuries, according to media reports.
His father, Dr. Hamdi Al-Najjar, 40, was injured critically in the bombing and died after a week in coma.
Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar, a pediatrician, had left the house moments before it was struck.
The doctor couple worked as Gaza's Al Nasser Hospital.
Two of their children are still buried under the rubble, according to Italian state TV Rai.“My only wish now is for the whole world to live in peace,” she told the Italian broadcaster in her first ever media interaction since the tragedy.
She thanked Italy for offering and helping in Adam's treatment.“Today, Gaza is full of sorrow, and I feel sad to leave, and leaving behind so many people who are suffering. But Adam is all I have left, and I hope I will be forgiven,” said Dr. Alaa.
“I hope to get better soon and one day be able to go back to school,” said Adam in Arabic from his hospital bed.
Adam will receive treatment at Niguarda Hospital of Milan Other injured children being evacuated from Gaza, including four cousins of Adam, will be treated at Policlino and at Giovanni XXIII Hospital of Bergamo.
Italian government had offered to treat Adam after an appeal from his uncle, Dr. Ali Al-Najjar.
Graeme Groom, a British surgeon working in the hospital who operated on Adam, told the BBC that Adam's“left arm was just about hanging off, he was covered in fragment injuries and he had several substantial lacerations.”
Adam's siblings killed in the bombing were Yahya, Rakan, Ruslan, Jubran, Eve, Rivan, Saydeen, Luqman and Sidra.
The eldest was 12 years old and the youngest six-months, according to local media and the BBC.
