Iran Agrees to Resume Indirect Nuclear Talks with U.S. in Rome
(MENAFN) Iran has agreed to take part in a fifth round of indirect nuclear talks with the United States, following a proposal from Oman, according to a statement from Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on Wednesday. The meeting is scheduled for Friday in Rome.
Baghaei reaffirmed that Iran’s negotiators are dedicated to upholding the nation's rights and interests concerning its peaceful nuclear program. These priorities include uranium enrichment and the removal of what he called cruel sanctions. He also noted the delegation's commitment to exploring all avenues to achieve these aims.
Tehran and Washington, with Oman acting as a mediator, have already held four rounds of indirect talks since April. These discussions have centered on Iran’s nuclear program and the potential easing of U.S. sanctions. The most recent round was held in Muscat on May 11.
Meanwhile, U.S. officials have maintained pressure on Iran to cease all uranium enrichment—an expectation that Iranian leaders have firmly refused.
