CBS News CEO Resigns After Lawsuit from Trump
(MENAFN) Wendy McMahon, the president and CEO of CBS News, has resigned due to growing internal tensions within the network related to a USD20 billion lawsuit filed by U.S. Leader Donald Trump.
The lawsuit accuses CBS of influencing the 2024 election by showing favoritism toward Trump's Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris.
McMahon, who took on the role in August 2023, submitted her resignation on Monday as the CEO of CBS News and Stations.
She explained that "the company and I do not agree on the path forward," marking the reason behind her departure.
The resignation follows Trump’s legal action against the network over an interview with Harris in October 2024, when she was still vice president and the Democratic nominee.
CBS aired two distinct versions of the conversation: one presented a vague and disjointed response on Middle East policy, while the other was more straightforward and clear.
Trump criticized the interview as a “word salad” and claimed CBS had intentionally edited Harris’s comments to portray her more favorably in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential race.
While the network acknowledged making edits, it emphasized that the alterations were made for clarity and followed standard journalistic practices.
