Indian Army Deploys Russian T-72 Tanks
(MENAFN) Between May 7 and May 10, the Indian Army utilized its T-72 primary battle tanks to demolish multiple Pakistani posts situated across the border, as reported by regional news outlets.
These armored vehicles were strategically deployed prior to India’s offensive operations against alleged militant camps in areas under Pakistani control.
The mission, code-named Operation Sindoor, was aimed at neutralizing pinpointed objectives previously identified by the Indian military, according to a news agency.
The main purpose of the T-72 tanks during the operation was to obliterate the paths commonly exploited by insurgents to infiltrate Indian territory. “We also hit enemy posts which were facilitating infiltration. We know which posts are used as bases for infiltration by the enemy."
An informed call was taken – and the targets were hit,” said an Indian Army colonel, as quoted by the news agency.
This statement underscored the military's confidence in their intelligence and their deliberate approach in selecting targets.
Initiated on May 7, Operation Sindoor was a retaliatory move following a terrorist assault in April within the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
This attack had resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, the majority of whom were visitors. New Delhi attributed the act to a faction linked to the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba.
However, Islamabad rejected any suggestion of its involvement, either directly or through proxy.
In response to India’s missile attacks on May 7, Pakistan launched retaliatory strikes at several sites within Jammu and Kashmir.
These counterattacks led to at least 16 deaths and injured many others, according to statements from Indian officials.
