Women Forum Creates Space For Growth And Exchange
Doha, Qatar: The Doha Women Forum organised a networking event on Saturday, bringing together a diverse group of women including CEOs, founders, professionals, entrepreneurs, and creatives for a day of open conversations, storytelling, and exploring ways to work together.
With interactive ice-breakers and relaxed seating at the Glass House in Al Aziziyah Boutique Hotel, the event created a welcoming atmosphere for genuine connections. More than a typical networking event, it was a space where nearly 60 women had light but thoughtful exchanges.
Among the attendees was Dr. Silvana Sosa C de Gerona, PhD, spouse of the Ambassador of Uruguay to Qatar H E Marcelo Esteban Gerona Morales.

Speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines, she said,“I attend events like this to meet brilliant and inspiring women from different communities. The life of a woman isn't easy as we are natural multitaskers and always preparing for the next step. That's why it's so important for women, especially professionals and entrepreneurs, to connect and support each other.”
“Events like this play a key role in personal development for women, and it's meaningful for us, as spouses on diplomatic missions, to take part in these spaces. As a researcher and advocate for women's development, I view women as the foundation of society, and that if they are empowered, they go on to empower their families and, ultimately, their communities,” Dr. Gerona said.
According to Conchita Ponce, Founder of the Doha Women Forum, the goal this time was to create a relaxed space for open discussions and to encourage relaxed conversations rather than formal presentations.
“When women unite with a shared purpose, the impact is powerful not just for themselves, but for the communities they influence. But this event isn't about exchanging business cards; it's about exchanging experiences,” Ponce told The Peninsula.“I was happy to see the women so at ease and chatting comfortably. That's exactly the kind of atmosphere I hoped to create.”
Tomomi Miyashita, spouse of the Ambassador of Australia to Qatar H E Shane Flanagan, also spoke about the value of such gatherings.
“Events like this are such a valuable opportunity to meet women from different backgrounds, cultures, and age groups. As women, we go through different stages in life and face unique challenges, so it's important to share our experiences and support one another,” Miyashita said.“As a diplomatic spouse, I see it as a privilege to connect with such a diverse group of women from various communities. It's both meaningful and inspiring and so I try to participate in women-focused gatherings as much as I can as it truly enriches our time here.”
The event was supported by The Torch Doha.“We are proud to partner with the Doha Women Forum on this initiative,” said Ameen Al Darawsheh, Group Director of Sales and Marketing at The Torch Hospitality.“Creating spaces where women can connect authentically, exchange knowledge, and inspire one another is essential to building inclusive and forward-thinking communities.”
