US Clinic Bombing Was Meant To Be Livestreamed, Says FBI
The FBI has identified 25-year-old Guy Edward Bartkus from Twentynine Palms, California, as the suspect in the May 17, 2025, car bombing outside the American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic in Palm Springs. The explosion resulted in Bartkus's death and injured four others. Investigators have classified the incident as an act of terrorism, citing Bartkus's nihilistic and anti-natalist ideologies. He had reportedly attempted to livestream the attack, but the video failed to upload.
Witnesses described the blast as powerful, with debris scattering over a wide area. A tripod and camera were found at the scene, suggesting Bartkus's intention to document the event. Fortunately, the clinic was not operational at the time, and no embryos or patients were harmed. Clinic officials confirmed that all stored embryos were safe.
Following the bombing, the FBI executed a search warrant at Bartkus's residence in Twentynine Palms. Authorities discovered writings and a 30-minute audio recording in which Bartkus expressed his anti-life and pro-mortalist beliefs. These materials provided insight into his motivations and underscored the premeditated nature of the attack.
The Palm Springs bombing is considered one of the most significant domestic terrorism cases in Southern California in recent years. FBI Assistant Director Akil Davis described the explosion as“one of the largest bombing investigations” the agency has undertaken in the region. The incident has raised concerns about the growing influence of extremist ideologies targeting reproductive healthcare facilities.
In the aftermath, U.S. Attorney Bilal Essayli condemned the attack as a deliberate act of terrorism targeting a healthcare facility. Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his support for those affected by the bombing, stating that he and his wife were“keeping everyone affected in [their] hearts.”
The Palm Springs bombing has prompted renewed discussions about the security of reproductive healthcare facilities and the need for measures to protect them from extremist threats. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, seeking to understand the full extent of Bartkus's activities and potential connections to broader extremist networks.
