EU To Host 4Th Humanitarian Forum On Afghanistan In Brussels
The European Union is set to convene the 4th European Humanitarian Forum on Afghanistan on Monday, May 19, 2025, in Brussels. The event, co-hosted by the European Commission and Poland, aims to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and explore sustainable solutions.
Veronika Buzekovic Pohar, Chargée d'Affaires of the EU Delegation to Afghanistan, emphasized the importance of examining the root causes of the crisis and strengthening regional cooperation.
Afghanistan continues to grapple with severe humanitarian challenges, including widespread poverty, displacement, and limited access to basic services. The EU has been actively involved in providing aid, committing over €900 million since the Taliban's return to power in August 2021 . Despite these efforts, the situation remains dire, with over half of the population-approximately 24 million people-relying on humanitarian assistance.
The upcoming forum will bring together policymakers, humanitarian organizations, and regional stakeholders to discuss strategies for addressing the crisis. Key topics will include enhancing humanitarian aid delivery, promoting human rights, and fostering regional collaboration to ensure long-term stability in Afghanistan.
In addition to immediate relief efforts, the EU is focusing on providing durable solutions for displaced populations. This includes initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, access to education, and protection services for vulnerable groups such as women, children, and persons with disabilities.
