A Bright Future Awaits Following Lifting Of US Sanctions - Syrian Foreign Minister


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al Shaibani affirmed that his talks with US Secretary of State Mark Rubio are aligned with the future aspirations of the Syrian people. He noted that the US side acknowledged Syria as a key regional player, emphasizing that its security is vital to global stability.
In a televised statement Thursday evening, Al-Shaibani said that, since December 8, 2024, they have embarked on normalizing relations with all Arab and foreign countries, including the United States. He added that Syria now has promising prospects, and a government with such qualities could place the country in a balanced position with all global partners.
The foreign minister highlighted that global relations are governed by interests, and Syria's approach stems from serving the interests of its people. He expressed confidence that Syria's future will be bright and competitive in the region once US sanctions are lifted.
Al Shaibani also pointed to the success and achievements of Syrians abroad across various fields, stressing that the government will provide opportunities for these talents to thrive and contribute.
Earlier on Thursday, the Syrian foreign minister held a joint meeting with his American counterpart Mark Rubio and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in the Turkish city of Antalya, on the sidelines of the informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
According to the Syrian News Agency, the talks focused on lifting US sanctions on Syria, improving bilateral ties between Damascus and Washington, and exploring pathways to building a strategic relationship.
