Powerful Earthquake Rattles Mediterranean Sea


(MENAFN) A powerful earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck the Mediterranean Sea early Wednesday, as confirmed by Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

According to the agency, the epicenter was located 155.06 kilometers (96.3 miles) off the coast of the Datca district in Mugla province, in southwestern Turkey.

AFAD noted the quake occurred at a depth of 20.41 kilometers (12.6 miles).

Mugla Governor Idris Akbiyik mentioned that assessments in the area are still underway.

"No negative situation has been reported so far," Akbiyik shared on X.

Meanwhile, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum stated that preliminary evaluations indicate no damage has been caused by the earthquake.
