Hyundai Registers New Trademarks in Russia
(MENAFN) South Korea's leading automobile manufacturer, Hyundai, has reportedly filed at least eight new trademark applications with Russia's intellectual property agency, Rospatent, in April 2025, as per the media.
Hyundai halted its operations in Russia in March 2022 following the imposition of sanctions on Moscow due to the ongoing Ukraine crisis.
The company cited challenges in securing parts and components as the primary reason for its suspension of activities in the country.
These recent trademark filings suggest that Hyundai may be planning to re-enter the Russian market.
The new trademarks would grant the company the rights to produce and sell a diverse range of vehicles in Russia, spanning from passenger cars to buses, tractors, and heavy-duty trucks.
The registration also extends to crucial automotive components such as tires, shock absorbers, engines, and wheels.
The patents registered include several model names, including Hyundai H-1, N Performance, N Line, Hyundai Axis, Ellecity, Xcient, Hyundai H100, and Hyundai Coupe.
This broad assortment of names suggests Hyundai may be targeting both commercial and passenger vehicle sectors, as well as performance and luxury sub-brands.
According to the trademark filings, Hyundai’s rights to use these marks in Russia will remain in effect until 2034.
A similar approach was taken earlier by another South Korean automaker, Kia, which filed at least six trademark applications with Rospatent.
