China Officially Approves Pilotless Flying Taxi, Advancing Urban Air Mobility
International media have reported that after officially approving the use of unmanned flying taxis in China, the country has granted commercial operating licenses to two companies for the first time to use these vehicles.
Chinese authorities have confirmed that the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has granted permission to EHang and Hefei Hey Airlines to offer urban sightseeing tours using flying taxis.
These licenses allow the two companies to begin offering flying taxi services, starting with short routes for tourism and ultimately expanding into larger networks, all while the aircraft remain autonomous.
Officials have further stated that flying taxis will reduce travel time, eliminate traffic congestion, and provide access to new routes.
This is a significant step for China as it moves forward in creating a commercial flying taxi industry.
At the same time, Beijing is actively promoting the development of the low-altitude economy, which includes passenger drones, helicopters, and flying vehicles.
It is reported that the Chinese government views this industry as a critical driver for the country's economic development.
According to reports, China's low-altitude economy is one of the fastest-growing industries in the country. Its value is expected to reach 1.5 trillion yuan (approximately 207 billion US dollars) by 2025 and is forecast to double by 2035.
China's approval of flying taxis marks a transformative moment in the future of transportation. As technological advancements continue, these flying vehicles could become a staple in urban mobility, significantly reshaping the transportation landscape.
Furthermore, China's rapid growth in this sector highlights its ambition to be at the forefront of innovative industries, setting an example for the rest of the world in terms of integrating new technologies into daily life.
