Putin Agrees To 30-Day Halt On Attacks On Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) The Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a call with his U.S. counterpart on Tuesday, agreed to a proposal by Donald Trump to halt attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure for 30 days.

According to a White House report, both countries have agreed to begin negotiations for a ceasefire in the Black Sea, which will take place in a Middle Eastern country. Putin emphasized that a halt in weapons deliveries to Ukraine was necessary for a ceasefire to be achieved, calling it a key condition for the deal.

After a two-hour conversation, the White House issued a statement confirming that the two leaders discussed the importance of peace and a ceasefire with Ukraine. They also agreed that talks for a lasting ceasefire in the Black Sea would begin soon in a Middle Eastern country.

Additionally, the White House report mentions that both leaders discussed improving bilateral relations between the U.S. and Russia, including significant economic deals and geopolitical stability, which could be realized if peace is achieved.

Meanwhile, both leaders agreed on the importance of collaboration in the region to prevent future conflicts. Both Trump and Putin also agreed that Iran should never be in a position to threaten Israel's existence.

The military conflict has heavily damaged Ukraine's energy infrastructure, with Russia targeting electricity grids and other facilities. In response, Ukraine has also attacked Russian refineries and fuel depots, though these retaliatory attacks have not caused the same level of destruction as Russia's.

If the agreement between Trump and Putin holds, it could signify a real reduction in the tensions of the three-year conflict. While the Kremlin has not addressed Ukraine's stance on the temporary halt of energy infrastructure attacks, it emphasized the importance of mutual restraint. However, the broader 30-day ceasefire agreement sought by the U.S. and Ukraine is not part of the deal.
