Colombia landslide leaves four dead, hundreds affected

(MENAFN) On Monday, local officials reported that a landslide in the Nariño department of southern Colombia claimed four lives and left around 100 families without homes.

Governor Luis Alfonso Escobar stated on social media platform X: "The rains have left emergencies in several cities, but the most devastating occurred in (the community of) El Encano, in the city of Pasto, where a landslide claimed the lives of four people and left serious damage."

More than 400 families were affected by the landslide, which also blocked major roads and led to the crash of three water supply systems.

Escobar reported that authorities were actively operating to remove debris from roads and ensure access to clean water by deploying water supply vehicles.

In La Cruz, another heavily impacted city, flooding displaced 100 families and destroyed three pedestrian bridges, adding to the crisis.
