Ex-CIA analyst claims Zelensky is done

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s leadership is effectively over, and he should be removed from power, former CIA analyst and journalist John Kiriakou told RT. His remarks came after a heated confrontation between Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Friday.

During the meeting, Trump urged Zelensky to negotiate peace with Russia, but the Ukrainian leader refused, prompting Trump to accuse him of ingratitude and obstructionism. The talks ended abruptly, with Zelensky leaving without signing a crucial agreement that would have granted the U.S. rights to Ukraine’s natural resources. A planned joint press conference was also canceled.

“For all intents and purposes, Zelensky is done. I wouldn’t be surprised if, in three months, he’s living in London or somewhere similar,” Kiriakou said, suggesting that Zelensky’s refusal to step down—despite his term technically ending last year under martial law—makes him a major obstacle to peace.

He argued that Ukraine should reconsider its constitutional provision that allows for the suspension of elections during martial law, adding, “Maybe it’s time to take a second look at that, remove him, and elect someone who can negotiate in good faith with Russia.”

Kiriakou also claimed that without U.S. support, which he believes Kiev lost following Zelensky’s confrontation with Trump, Ukraine’s war effort is effectively finished.

“[Zelensky] can’t rely on NATO if the U.S. withdraws support. And it looks very much like that’s happening. The conflict is over. This is today’s reality,” he said.

Zelensky has rejected calls to step down, including a recent suggestion from U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham that he resign and allow a new leader to negotiate. However, Kiriakou argued that losing Graham’s support—a longtime advocate for Ukraine—is a clear signal that Zelensky’s time in power is coming to an end.

“In Congress, we have workhorses and show horses. Lindsey Graham is a show horse. So when you’ve lost Lindsey Graham, you’ve lost the war. This is a message to Zelensky that it’s time to stop,” Kiriakou concluded.
