Trump envoy determines date for Ukraine peace strategy

(MENAFN) Keith Kellogg, President Donald Trump’s special envoy on Russia and Ukraine, indicated that a US peace proposal for Moscow and Kiev could emerge within days or weeks, during his comments at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday. According to a report from January, trump had tasked Kellogg with developing a settlement for the Ukraine conflict within 100 days. While Trump warned of additional sanctions if Moscow rejects the plan, he emphasized that the goal was not to harm Russia.

Kellogg stated that there would be "breathing space," but it wouldn’t extend to six months—he was expecting action within days or weeks. He noted that when Trump gives him a task, he expects rapid results. Kellogg humorously added that Trump would want the job completed quickly and would inquire about progress almost immediately.

Earlier this week, US President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had their first direct phone conversation since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022. According to the Kremlin, Trump expressed support for ending hostilities swiftly, while Putin stressed that addressing the root causes of the conflict was essential, and that a long-term resolution could only be achieved through talks. Following the call, Trump announced that Washington and Moscow were initiating discussions to resolve the conflict. He also mentioned the possibility of an American and Russian meeting during the Munich conference, though no such meeting was reported.
