
Govt Consolidates EV Initiative EMPS Under PM E-DRIVE Scheme
The minister provided these details in a written response to the Rajya Sabha, outlining the evolution and scope of the government's electric vehicle Promotion efforts.
The initiative began with the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS) 2024, which was introduced through Gazette Notification 1334 (E) on March 13, 2024.
This program was subsequently incorporated into the broader PM E-DRIVE Scheme, officially announced via Gazette Notification 4259 (E) on September 29, 2024.
The comprehensive scheme is set to run until March 31, 2026, with a nationwide implementation strategy that encompasses both rural and marginalised areas.
Under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, the government aims to subsidise more than 28 lakh electric vehicles, including electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, trucks, ambulances, and buses.
This ambitious program is designed to achieve two primary objectives: reducing India's reliance on fossil fuels and decreasing carbon emissions. The initiative represents a significant step in India's commitment to sustainable transportation and environmental protection.
