Amman, Feb. 14 (Petra)-- About 40,000 worshipers performed Friday prayer at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in light of the strict military measures imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities on access to the mosque, according to the Islamic Awqaf Department in Jerusalem.
The Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported, on Friday, that the occupation forces obstructed the access of worshipers to Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform prayers through the Damascus and Lions Gates, checked their identities, and stopped many young men and prevented them from entering the mosque, where a number of young men performed Friday prayer in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque after the occupation prevented them from entering the courtyards of the mosque.
Worshipers' access to Al-Aqsa Mosque is still severely restricted by the occupying forces, particularly on Fridays.
By constructing more checkpoints and iron gates at the entrances to Palestinian villages and cities, the Israeli occupation has tightened its military measures in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, since the "ceasefire" in the Gaza Strip went into effect on January 19. This has prevented tens of thousands of residents from the West Bank governorates from traveling to Jerusalem to pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque because they need special permits to pass through its military checkpoints surrounding the holy city.
