India Signs Landmark Energy Agreements With UAE, Brazil, & Israel During IEW 2025

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Feb 14 (KNN) India significantly strengthened its energy security and transition capabilities through multiple strategic agreements signed during India Energy Week (IEW) 2025, held at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, from February 11-14.

The comprehensive range of partnerships spans crude oil imports, LNG supply, upstream exploration, and renewable energy initiatives.

In a notable development for crude oil security, Bharat petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) established an optional term contract with Brazil's Petrobras, securing potential access to six million barrels of Brazilian crude grades.

Simultaneously, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) fortified its LNG portfolio by signing a substantial 14-year agreement with ADNOC, UAE, valued at over USD 7 billion, for the procurement of up to 1.2 MMTPA of LNG beginning in 2026.

BPCL further enhanced India's LNG supply security through a separate agreement with ADNOC for 2.4 million metric tonnes over five years, with provisions for a five-year extension.

India marked its entry into the LNG export market through IOCL's sales agreement with M/s Yogya Holdings Nepal, arranging the export of approximately one thousand metric tonnes of LNG via cryogenic trucks through the Dhamra Terminal in Odisha.

This milestone represents India's expanding role in regional energy distribution.

The upstream sector witnessed significant developments as ONGC Videsh Ltd. (OVL) and Petrobras agreed to collaborate on oil and gas projects across Brazil, India, and third countries.

The partnership encompasses trading, low-carbon solutions, digitalisation, and human capital development. Oil India Limited (OIL) similarly engaged with Petrobras to explore offshore hydrocarbon opportunities in deep and ultra-deep regions, particularly in the Mahanadi and Andaman basins.

Technical collaborations saw substantial progress with BP's selection as the Technical Services Provider for ONGC's Mumbai High field, where it will conduct comprehensive performance reviews and implement technological interventions.

Engineers India Limited (EIL) partnered with BP Business Solutions India Pvt. Ltd. to enhance operations across refining, terminals, and pipelines, with a particular focus on reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency.

In the renewable energy sector, BPCL initiated two pioneering projects. The company partnered with Israel's Eco Wave Power to develop India's first wave energy pilot project in Mumbai, featuring a 100 kW wave energy converter installation.

Additionally, BPCL's collaboration with the National Sugar Institute (NSI), Kanpur, aims to advance sweet sorghum-based bioethanol production, establishing a comprehensive value chain for sustainable ethanol production.

These strategic agreements at IEW 2025 demonstrate India's comprehensive approach to energy security and transition, balancing traditional energy sources with innovative renewable technologies while strengthening international energy partnerships.
