Senator Chris Murphy Accuses Trump and Musk of Leading a ‘Billionaire Takeover’ of US Government
(MENAFN) Democratic Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut has accused US President Donald trump and his billionaire ally, Elon Musk, of orchestrating a "billionaire takeover" of the US government for corrupt purposes. In a statement aired on ABC News on Sunday, Murphy argued that Trump is using his power to punish Political enemies while rewarding his allies, creating what he described as a dangerous shift in power.
Since returning to office on January 20, Trump has rolled back many of the executive orders enacted by his predecessor, Joe Biden. The president has also taken steps to cut government spending, including suspending all US foreign aid and halting several projects managed by USAID, the agency responsible for funding international political initiatives.
Trump’s appointment of Musk, CEO of SpaceX, Tesla, and owner of X, to head the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) further fueled Murphy’s concerns. Musk’s role as a "special government employee" has raised questions about potential conflicts of interest and the influence of billionaires on public policy.
Murphy called the situation the "most serious constitutional crisis the country has faced, certainly, since Watergate," accusing Trump of attempting to seize control of government power for his own benefit.
