Elon Musk Accuses FEMA of Misusing Funds on Luxury Hotels for Undocumented Migrants
(MENAFN) Elon Musk has accused the US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of improperly spending USD 59 million on luxury hotel accommodations for undocumented migrants, arguing that the funds should have been directed toward disaster relief efforts instead. Musk, who now serves as one of President Donald Trump’s key advisors and heads the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), made the allegations on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.
Musk claimed that FEMA had sent USD 59 million to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants, a move he argued was a misuse of taxpayer dollars meant to aid Americans during disasters. He wrote, “The DOGE team just discovered that FEMA sent USD 59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants. That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high-end hotels for illegals!”
As the head of DOGE, Musk has taken a leading role in identifying ways to reduce government spending and streamline the federal workforce. He labeled the FEMA expenditure a “gross insubordination” in violation of a presidential executive order and vowed to recover the funds.
