India Poised For Energy Growth With Key Initiatives In Biofuels And EV Batteries

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Feb 11 (KNN) In his virtual address at the India energy Week 2025 on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined India's ambitious energy transformation, emphasising the rapid strides the country is making toward electric mobility and sustainable energy solutions.

With India being a vast and diverse nation, he stressed the need for swift and decisive action to meet the growing energy demands.

One of the key highlights of PM Modi's address was India's goal to achieve a 20% ethanol blending mandate by October 2025.

At present, the country is achieving a 19 per cent ethanol blending rate, which not only contributes to substantial savings in foreign exchange but also boosts farmer income while reducing carbon monoxide emissions. The progress in ethanol blending, according to the Prime Minister, marks a significant step towards India's greener future.

India's energy vision is also anchored in its ambitious targets for 2030, which include adding 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, achieving net-zero carbon emissions for Indian Railways, and producing five million metric tons of green hydrogen annually.

PM Modi proudly noted that India's efforts are contributing to both national growth and global energy sustainability.

Looking ahead, India's biofuel sector is expected to grow rapidly, supported by 500 million metric tonnes of sustainable feedstock.

The Prime Minister identified five pillars on which India's energy strategy rests: harnessing resources, fostering innovation, ensuring economic and political stability, leveraging strategic geography for energy trade, and committing to global sustainability.

In line with these ambitions, the government has recently exempted several key items from basic customs duty to promote the manufacturing of electric vehicle and mobile phone batteries.

These include critical minerals like cobalt powder, lithium-ion battery waste, and zinc. This move is set to further fuel the growth of India's energy and electric mobility sectors.

As India strives for energy independence and sustainability, PM Modi's address highlighted the country's transformative journey and the significant milestones that lie ahead in its energy future.
