Judge Blocks Musk's DOGE from Accessing Treasury System

(MENAFN) A federal judge temporarily blocked Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing a critical Treasury Department payment system on Saturday, citing concerns of potential "irreparable harm." Judge Paul Engelmayer issued the ruling following a lawsuit filed by 19 state attorneys general against the Trump administration.

The court's decision prevents DOGE from accessing the system used to process Social Security benefits, Medicaid, Medicare payments to doctors, and payments to other federal agencies. The judge raised concerns over the possible exposure of sensitive data and the increased risk of cyberattacks.

In addition, Engelmayer ordered the destruction of any data downloaded from the system since January 20, when access was granted. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for February 14, and President Donald Trump, along with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, must respond by then.

The lawsuit contends that Musk's team, classified as "special government employees," was unlawfully granted access to the Treasury system, which is generally restricted to authorized government personnel.
