Netanyahu dismisses allegations about Trump discussing US troops in Gaza

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denied reports that US President Donald Trump suggested deploying American troops to Gaza. During a joint press conference, Trump stated that the US would "take over" the Gaza Strip, demolish destroyed buildings, and transform the area into the "Riviera of the Middle East." When asked about sending US troops, Trump responded that he would "do what is necessary."

However, Netanyahu clarified in an interview with Sean Hannity that Trump did not propose sending US troops to complete the destruction of Hamas, emphasizing that it is Israel’s responsibility. Netanyahu also expressed doubts about Trump’s intentions regarding US financing for Gaza’s reconstruction, suggesting neighboring wealthy states would shoulder the cost.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt later clarified that the US would not fund Gaza's rebuilding but would collaborate with regional partners on reconstruction. Despite criticism of Trump’s proposal, Netanyahu defended it, stating it would offer Gazans the option to leave or return freely. Trump's ideas have faced international backlash, with many leaders opposing any forced displacement of Palestinians or radical changes to Gaza without their consent.
