Trump reiterates his controversial stance on controlling Gaza Strip

(MENAFN) Former U.S. President Donald trump reiterated his controversial stance on controlling the Gaza Strip, claiming that "everyone loves" his proposal, despite widespread global condemnation. During a press briefing in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump insisted that his idea was widely supported, although he declined to elaborate further. On Tuesday evening, Trump shared his vision at a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, announcing that the U.S. would seize control of Gaza after relocating its entire Palestinian population to other nations. He claimed that those he spoke with expressed strong approval of the United States gaining control of the region.

However, the proposal faced intense backlash from international groups. Amnesty International condemned it as "appalling" and a clear violation of international law, while UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres cautioned against any action that could lead to "ethnic cleansing" in Gaza. He called for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with Gaza remaining an integral part. Several European nations strongly opposed Trump's plan, warning that it would constitute a significant violation of international humanitarian law and could exacerbate unrest in the Middle East. They emphasized the need for a two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting peace in the region.

Trump's proposal also sparked outrage from global powers, including Russia, China, and Saudi Arabia, as well as the Arab League, all of whom rejected the idea. The international community continues to call for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
