Aqaba, Dec. 12 (Petra) - Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Thursday met with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
During their meeting, talks focused on efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire that would end the Israeli aggression on Gaza, efforts to deliver "immediate and adequate" humanitarian aid to all parts of the strip, and developments in Syria, according to a Foreign
Ministry statement.
The ministers also went over ways to develop bilateral relations, as well as a number of issues of common interest.
The duo voiced support for a comprehensive political transition process, led by Syrians, to build a political system that meets aspirations of the Syrian people, respects their will, guarantees their rights, and puts Syria on the path to building "a future of security and stability."
Furthermore, the FMs stressed the need to respect Syria's unity, cohesion, and sovereignty, and enhance efforts to combat terrorism.
Safadi said Syria's security and stability are "key to regional security," which requires concerted efforts to support a comprehensive transitional political process to implement Security Council Resolution 2254.
In this context, Safadi urged assistance to brotherly Syrian people to fulfill their aspirations to build a political system that respects rights of all Syrians and restores the country's position, as a safe, stable, sovereign state free of terrorism, which is ready for the voluntary return of refugees.
Condemning Israel's occupation of Syrian territory, Safadi called on Israel to withdraw "immediately" and respect Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
