Overthrown Assad regime leads to shattered economy

(MENAFN) The Bashar al-Assad Regime in Syria has controlled over a shattered economy, due to a civil conflict that started in 2011. Economic retrieval stays a distant aim during current issues, such as extensive poverty, decreasing production, as well as local unsteadiness.

The defeated Assad regime experienced Syria’s gross domestic product (GDP) decrease more than 85 percent in 2011-2023 to USD9 billion, and it is projected to contract by another 1.5 percent in the current year. Syria’s private intake dropped and 69 percent of Syrians, nearly 14.5 million individuals, are impacted by poverty since 2022, based on figures from the World Bank.

Among every four Syrians is one experiencing extensive poverty, which has exacerbated by the shattering effect of the February 2023 shaking.

The Assad regime’s laws made a major decrease in power generation, as Syria’s oil output declined from 383,000 barrels per day ahead of the civil conflict to 90,000 barrels per day in 2023. The regime further reportedly permitted the terrorist organization PKK/YPG to attack some areas by divesting itself of oil profits.
