Pandemic Poses New Challenges In Education - OECD

The pandemic has created new challenges in education, but the consequences of climate change will be even more serious, Director of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Andreas Schleicher said during a speech at the 5th International Forum on New Challenges in Education, Trend reports.

He noted that tackling the beast of climate change has taken center stage.

“The future challenges arising from climate change remain uncertain. We must be ready for various circumstances.

Individuals graduate from universities and are unable to secure employment. They lack mastery of the requisite skills for this period. The education we obtain does not align with the requisite new skills. A divide has already emerged between schooling and the contemporary world. Universities appear to be preparing students primarily for their own institutional needs,” he added.

On October 4, ADA University is hosting the 5th International Forum,“New Challenges in Education.”

The International Forum is held in a hybrid format with the partnership of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan, the World Education Forum, and the Education Development Fund, with organizational support of the experimental-communication platform of education workers“T-Network” and ADA University, and media support of the newspaper“Azerbaijani teacher" (Azərbaycan muellimi),“Education TV” (Tehsil TV), and magazine“Azerbaijani school” (Azərbaycan məktəbi).

The primary objective is to address emerging difficulties in education, enhance focus on environmental education, particularly the concept of "green education," and attain additional quality enhancement by accommodating the educational demands of contemporary times.

The International Forum, dedicated to the“Year of Solidarity for a Green World” and containing the idea of COP29, is held under the motto“A Better Educated Future.”

The key speakers of the forum are Dominic Savage, Director of the World Education Forum, and Andreas Schleicher, Head of the Education and Skills Department of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
