UAE expresses condolences to Kerala landslide victims amid rising toll
(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates has extended its heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the Republic of India following the devastating landslides in the state of Kerala, which have resulted in significant casualties and damage. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing deep sympathy to the Indian government, the affected families, and the people of India. The UAE also wished for a swift recovery for those injured in the tragic events.
The death toll from the landslides, which occurred as a result of intense monsoon rains in southern India, has tragically risen to 93, with 128 individuals reported injured, according to Kerala's Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan. Vijayan described the situation as one of the worst natural disasters the state has ever experienced. Efforts to manage the crisis are being complicated by the collapse of a major bridge in Wayanad district and the damage inflicted on numerous farms in the region. Rescue operations have managed to save over 250 people, but the challenges persist.
In response to the disaster, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences via social media and announced compensation of USD2,400 (Rs 200,000) for the families of the victims. The Indian Army has been mobilized, deploying over 200 soldiers to support local security forces and firefighters in their search and rescue operations. These efforts are crucial in addressing the immediate needs of the affected population and aiding in the recovery process.
