Hamas announces assassination of political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh


(MENAFN) Hamas announced on Wednesday morning that its Political bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, was assassinated in a treacherous raid by the Occupation on his residence in Tehran. The Islamic Resistance Movement made the announcement through its Telegram channel, stating that Haniyeh died as a result of a Zionist raid on his residence in the Iranian capital.

An Iranian news agency reported that Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were martyred when their residence in Tehran was targeted. Additionally, an Iranian news agency indicated that an investigation into the assassination of Haniyeh is underway and the results will be announced soon. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard also confirmed that they are studying the dimensions of the incident of Haniyeh's martyrdom in Tehran.

On Tuesday, Hamas had announced that Ismail Haniyeh and a delegation from the movement visited Iran to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president. During their visit, Haniyeh and the delegation held official meetings, including one with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian. Haniyeh congratulated the new president on his election and the confidence placed in him by the Iranian people.

During the meetings, Haniyeh briefed President Pezeshkian on the latest political and field developments related to the war on Gaza, expressing gratitude for Iran's support of the Palestinian people's steadfastness. President Pezeshkian reiterated Iran's firm stance in supporting the Palestinian people, wishing them and their resistance victory in their struggle against Israeli occupation.
