Bannu Incident Handled In Accordance With Sops And Orders, Says DG ISPR

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) Rawalpindi - In a significant press conference held in Rawalpindi, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), addressed the media on the recent surge in organized propaganda against the armed forces, the increase in fake news, and the ongoing terrorist incidents.

General Chaudhry revealed that security forces conducted 22,409 intelligence-based operations this year. During these operations, 31 highly wanted terrorists were neutralized. The forces are conducting an average of 112 operations daily.

He emphasized that Operation Azm-e-Istehkam is being unjustly politicized. He clarified, "Azm-e-Istehkam is not a military operation but a coordinated campaign against terrorism. Why is it being made controversial?"

He further stated, "There is a strong lobby that wants to derail the objectives of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam. A political and illegal mafia is trying to create controversy around it."

Commenting on the Bannu attack, he reported that some civilians were also martyred by terrorist gunfire. During the Bannu Peace March, some individuals chanted slogans against the state and the military and pelted stones. The crowd included armed individuals who looted a ration depot. Shots were also fired by some individuals a kilometer away from the incident site. He assured that the military's response to the Bannu incident was by Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and orders.

General Chaudhry warned against the dangers of digital terrorism, where fake news and propaganda are spread under the guise of freedom of expression. "Digital terrorists and conventional terrorists share a common target: the military. Instead of being held accountable under the law, purveyors of fake news and propaganda are often given more freedom in the name of free speech," he lamented.
