Finance Minister Announces Energy Audit And Upgrade Scheme For Small Industries

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Jul 23 (KNN) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has unveiled a new initiative aimed at enhancing energy efficiency in traditional micro and small industries across India.

The scheme, announced as part of the latest budget, will begin with 60 industrial clusters, focusing on sectors such as brass and ceramic manufacturing.

The program will involve conducting investment-grade energy audits in the selected clusters.

Additionally, the government will provide financial support to assist industries in transitioning to cleaner energy sources and implementing energy efficiency measures in these facilities.

According to the Finance Minister, the initial phase will target 60 clusters, with plans to expand to an additional 100 clusters in the subsequent phase.

This initiative appears to align with broader government efforts to promote sustainable industrial practices and reduce carbon emissions.

The focus on traditional micro and small industries indicates an attempt to modernise sectors that may have been overlooked in previous energy reform efforts.

While specific details about the financial support and implementation timeline were not provided, the announcement signals a significant step towards enhancing energy efficiency in India's small-scale industrial sector.
