HSBC announces George El Hadary as Group Chief Executive Officer


(MENAFN) HSBC bank has announced the appointment of George El Hadery as the Group Chief Executive Officer, effective September 2. El Hadery, currently serving as the Chief Financial Officer, will succeed the outgoing Chairman Noel Quinn. El Hadery, who resides in Dubai, began his career with HSBC in 2005 as Senior Executive Director of Global Markets. He served as the Regional Head of Global Markets for the Middle East and North Africa in Dubai before moving to London in 2017. In London, he was appointed as Group CFO in January 2023, following roles as Co-CEO of Global banking and Markets and Head of Markets and Securities Services at HSBC. His extensive commercial experience spans across major financial hubs including London, Paris, and Tokyo.

El Hadery holds an engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Paris and a postgraduate degree in statistics and economics from the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration in France. His rise to CEO comes less than two years after his promotion to CFO in early 2023. HSBC Group Chairman Mark Tucker praised El Hadery as “an exceptional leader and banker who cares passionately about the bank, our customers, and our people.” El Hadery’s career has taken him across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, where he has demonstrated strategic vision and deep international perspectives. The board of HSBC considers him an outstanding candidate for the role. To ensure a smooth transition, outgoing Chairman Noel Quinn will work closely with El Hadery in the handover of responsibilities.
